#5079 – who's in town

yesterday bruno_boy and i went up to baltimore so i could get my hair cut at the beatnik barbershop (yes, that’s the owner outside the shop with a shotgun), and afterwards we went over to fells point to poke around soundgarden and go see producer_chris at johnhr11‘s bar “bad decisions”.

sometimes when i go to soundgarden, i’ll find cds that i just have to buy because of the album cover. for example, i had to buy this album…

…because the guy on the front looks a bit like whammywah, and after some photoshopping not only does he look just like him, but the guy on the album is even saying one of his phrases:

anyway, so when we were in soundgarden, i found this album:

i thought at first it was the who, but then i saw the name and realized it wasn’t. i mean, it’s an easy mistake to make:

but not only that, upon closer inspection, that’s not big ben, that’s the bromo seltzer tower here in baltimore! i couldn’t not buy that album! i can’t figure out if they’re a local band or not. i mean, it’s got the bromo seltzer tower on there, but the label is in brooklyn, nyc. then again, track 7 is “hampden soliloquy”, so who knows.

#5078 – triple the rate

i was reading this post by girlpirate, and after looking into it i opened up a savings account with ING — i’d been using my navy federal savings account to put away $50 / paycheck (or at least i’d try to), but that was only giving me a 1.01% return on my savings, and ING gives me 3%. took 10 minutes to set up (well, it probably could have taken 5 minutes, but i read everything and had to transfer a load of laundry from the washer to the dryer) and now i’ll be getting triple my return on savings. since the rental check due at the end of may will be the last rental payment i’ll have to make for a while (since i’ll be moving back home for a few months), i figure i’d try to increase my savings per paycheck and credit card payments in lieu of having to pay rent and other bills.

i had a pre-interview for the executive relations team position i applied for at work today – they asked me a few questions to see how i’d respond, let me ask some questions about the position, and then they forwarded me a project to complete by friday afternoon. assuming that goes well, then they’ll have the actual interview. my guess is that if that goes ok, the new position would take effect as of june 16 (first workday after the next payday). i asked them during the pre-interview if it’d just be a lateral move, and they said they’d have to check with human resources but there’d likely be a pay increase with this new job. if that’s the case, and if the new job takes effect as of june 16, then who knows, maybe it’ll be enough of an increase for me to find a place of my own starting in july.

#5077 – trouble every day

last night bruno_boy, spelchec, festive and i went to bertucci’s for pizza for dinner, and i don’t know what it was about that pizza, but it left me all gassy and upset-stomachey when i tried to go to bed, and this morning it was still having some gastrointestinal effects on me — no more gas, but still feeling pretty ill — so i called in sick to work. i don’t know what it was (maybe i don’t agree with that cheese? cynicalscribe said maybe it was the grease? food poisoning? maybe it was because it was so hot in here last night? the a/c is either busted or needs a new air filter or both, who knows…), but i wasn’t really enjoying life when i got up this morning.

feisty_fitz sent a text message later to say that savannah the cat was put down this morning. i could tell that savannah wasn’t doing well in the last month or so — she had lost a lot of weight and only wanted to sprawl out on the kitchen floor, she wasn’t active at all and her pupils seemed very dilated — and i said to mom a few days ago that she should be taken to the vet. apparently she had some sort of tumor and couldn’t really breathe when eating or drinking, so that was why she’d lost a lot of weight and was dehydrated. poor kitty, i felt so bad for her not being well… i’m not really that upset about it since i’m glad she’s not suffering any more and kinda expected this to happen. still, its sad. poor kitty. 🙁

UMUC emailed me to say that IFSM 430, the information systems security class, will count for the final class for my degree. thats good, all i need to do now is submit a request to have work pay for it.

after i called in sick to work i fell back asleep, and after i woke up later feeling less ill i spent most of the day getting things organized for my three current classes. wish i didn’t have to work this semester, it’s going to be a hassle enough trying to work and take 9 or 12 credits at the same time.

time for bed, think i’ll get to sleep a little early tonight.
