#5085 – i've got one hand in my pocket and the other one is dating alanis morissette

i got an email from apple yesterday with this promotion for a new album that alanis morissette has out:

“with the end of a four-year relationship behind her”? you do know who that relationship was with, right?

anyway, there really is a point to this. sorry cynicalscribe: i have to go be alanis’ boyfriend now — it’s some ironic soap-opera wacky love triangle thing we’re doing to make folks jealous (grumble grumble no-good ryan reynolds mumble mumble scarlett johansson grumble)…… but none of you heard that from me – my new romance with alanis is supposed to be a secret, apparently. jeez, why couldn’t you have told me earlier, sfgate? dag!

#5084 – one two three

i just finished watching “the taking of pelham one two three” on bruno_boy‘s recommendation — he mentioned it to me last saturday, i added it to my netflix queue, it arrived a day or two ago and i just finished watching it now. what a good movie! quentin tarantino used it as inspiration for some parts of “reservoir dogs”:

boy, i love netflix (even though it’s apparently also for rent and purchase on itunes, heh.) huh, they’re making a new version of it for theaters in 2009? hope it’s better than the made-for-tv version from 9 years ago!

the a/c is still out here at the apartment; it’s super-stuffy and hot in here. ugh.

i’m trying out jungledisk — it’s a backup system that uses the amazon s3 service to store your data offsite. sure, i’ve got local backups, but in case all my gear here goes kaput in a fire or gets stolen, at least this way i’ll still have a copy of my data offsite. at the rate it’s transferring my information, though, it’ll take about 55 days to get all this stuff offsite. 😛

i got word at work today that i passed the assignment i had to do for the position i applied for, and tomorrow i’ve got the actual interview. that’s good, but i’m not looking forward to wearing a suit in this heat tomorrow, either.

#5083 – steve's lost that lovin' feelin'

oh yeah, i forgot about this:

so i had this dream the other night — i finally got to see a steve jobs keynote (“stevenote”) in person, and i managed to snag a front row seat. it was in a large auditorium, as usual. however, there were only a few dozen people there to see the presentation, and since they were all scattered about the hall, steve figured that it had to be held in a smaller venue so it wouldn’t appear so pathetic to have such a small number of people there to see his presentation.

so we moved to a smaller venue, but even less people showed up than before. so again, we had to change to a smaller venue. we changed to smaller and smaller venues about 3 or 4 times with the crowd shrinking each time until i was the only person left, and steve wanted me to stay and listen to his speech so badly he ended up treating me to a pizza party with just the two of us (by this time the venue had become the back corner of some pizzeria, and we were relegated to the stand-up tables — we didn’t even get seats!).

unfortunately, it seemed that even the pizza couldn’t make up for the lack of reality distortion field (it was a pretty sad dream, really), and the next thing i knew i was hanging out with some woman instead for a business meeting. i didn’t know who she was supposed to be until she and i said goodbye after our conference and i found myself saying “goodbye mrs. jobs!”, haha.

#5081 – Q. what do daleks that do webdesign say?

not to knock jazzometer‘s html skillz or the current site design, but while working on the ccrg site tonight and tracking down some layout bugs, i realized why i was going crosseyed reading the code: 661 errors?!?! ouch… guess it’s a good thing it’s going to be redesigned soon, haha…

and speaking of webdesign, i was called today by a headhunter regarding two web / webdesign jobs at some place in landover. i’ll have to give the voicemail she left another listen and give her a call tomorrow. woot!
