#4584 – because everybody needs a hobby… or seven

This was posted over 18 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

mom: “aha! now i know why you’re still taking roller derby photos even though you’re done with your photojournalism class!”

oh, mom… hahaha…

i can’t wait until open skate on thursday! before that, i’m only working until 1 pm, and then from 3 to probably about 5 or 6 i’m going to be working with the metro collective folks to start my internship. look, the webpage is up! that’s what i’m going to be taking care of as a result of my photojournalism class. the funny thing is that i just looked at the site for 10 seconds, realized it was done with wordpress, and then hax0red my way into finding where the login screen is. bahahaha, now i know where i’ll be logging in. er… right.

unfortunately, as luck would have it, even though i’m going to vegas this weekend, sin city skates is going to be closed while i’m there. bah, humbug.

dad gave me $100 to go towards my new used oboe and said that he expects to hear some tootin’, haha… i found my old practice books and some sheet music from back in high school (including a song i did for the solo and ensemble festival one year, a few songs by some classmates of mine in our senior year that they had to write and conduct for their theory class, a version of sousa’s “liberty bell march” that i had transcribed, and the sheet music to “goober peas”… because everybody knows that the oboe was the preferred instrument of the confederate army :P). now i just need to see about finding someplace to practice occasionally — i’m thinking of investigating the practice rooms back at umbc.

the curling club is planning a golf tournament, and a simultaneous mini-golf tournament. i’ll have to keep that in mind.

i still haven’t gotten the dent out from my car. stupid raccoon.

the o’s lost tonight. boo hiss!

a thought occurred to me today — if, as my photojournalism instructor told me, we work on submitting my derby photos to some internet magazine for possible publishing, and if, say, i were to put together some writing to go along with said photos… i should totally work harm city homicide and my roller derby aspirations in there somehow — that’d be taking gonzo journalism to a whole new level, haha! “roller derby is decadent and depraved”, perhaps?? too bad i won’t be going to rollercon this year, then i could do “fear and loathing in roller derby”, bahahaha… it’d be chuckles to say the least!
