#5173 – monty hall

when i get bored at work and am in the bathroom (working in my “other cubicle”), i try to work out how the monty hall problem applies to the three stalls in the restroom, where car = clean stall, and goat = stall visited by the “brown bandit”, if you catch my drift. 😛

last night i used the “ambience” program on my iphone to help me to go bed. the only sound loop that didn’t annoy me and helped me get some z’s was the airplane engine loop. i’ll try it again tonight, but i’m already pretty tired and have been for a while (have been working on some other crap online the past hour or two).

got some more mail in the, uh, mail… christmas cards from grandmother and grandaddy, john1082, and bryanyw‘s cd… i’ll have to give it a listen tomorrow! 🙂 tomorrow is also holiday party for work, as well as last day for me to apply to this government job i found that’s about the same thing that i currently do.

#5172 – time to step up the job search

last week i was late to work on two consecutive days, and i kicked myself for not leaving the house earlier. plus, it was raining. it’s not like there was an accident or anything along the way, folks just slowed down and stopped on route 32 for no reason, just before fort meade. grr.

today my supervisor had a quick talk with me about those two latenesses since that brought my whole total of late days for the year (anything 5 minutes 1 second or more = late), which meant now i’m on a verbal warning for the next 3 months. four latenesses = verbal warning, six = written, 8 = final written, and then you get the boot. those two days put me at 5 days for the year. i wouldn’t really mind since it’s so close to the end of the year, except i was late again this morning (again, because of traffic on route 32 slowing and stopping for no apparent reason other than volume), which really sucks, since that puts me up at a written warning now. lame. looks like early bedtimes for the foreseeable future.

last night i cleared my entire email inbox out, so now it’s nice to be at “inbox zero”. i spent tonight going through a bunch of bookmarks and articles i wanted to read. almost 200 of them! tomorrow i’ll have to make time to go through my snail mail — i saw stueypark sent me a christmas card the other day! 🙂

#5170 – sava sav

at work a few weeks ago we had this quality celebration week, and one day it was “dress up in work clothes in verizon wireless colors (red, black, white) day”. i didn’t plan on dressing up, but when they gave my team these hats that said something to the effect of “make the save on every call”, i had to carry it to its logical ridiculousness.

so i dressed up in black pants, black shirt and red tie, put on my sunglasses and my hat, clipped my old blackberry to my badge holder, and instead of “flava flav”, i became “sava sav”:

#5169 – some of my best work is done at 4 AM

new and improved résumé!

now to find someplace that’ll look at it and see how awesome i really am (answer: “very”) and offer me a new job. feel free to wave this around or pass the word along my way if you know of someplace that might think i’m awesome too.

tomorrow: going to trim out some of the more personal bits (phone number and address, for example… ) and post it in places more publicly-accessible.
