#4910 – you can never have enough mini

my car’s got its quirks, and while i kind of like it for its quirks, they kind of make me want to trade it in for a new mini, even though it’s not exactly practical to do so at this point in time. one of its quirks (its check engine light likes to come and go as it pleases — i’ve taken it into two different dealerships at various times during the 3.5 years i’ve owned it and they say that they can’t find anything wrong with it… lately it comes on at the same time as the traction control light) has really been bugging me lately, even though it doesn’t have the car drive much differently. also, there’s a wire loose in my dome light in the ceiling: sometimes the interior light comes on when it should, and other times it doesn’t and i have to thump the ceiling to get the light to come on.

according to the kelley blue book i can expect $13,500 to trade it in – not bad, only about $10k less than what i paid for it new, all customized exactly how i wanted it, and including tax. i wonder what nifty things the ’08 minis are going to have?

also, lala_lisa: when do you think the ride for the feast planners might know what they need volunteer-wise? i can ask my local mini cooper group for assistance with the ride whenever, just let me know what’s needed! 🙂

#4908 – bat-hey-ohh

after commenting on bigangry‘s post (in which i had to make this icon for an appropriate ed mcmahon-esque zing), i tried searching around to see if i could find any audio of this radio birthday prank call bruno_boy and i had heard years ago where the station calls some guy and told him that instead of winning the publisher’s clearinghouse, he actually won an ed mcmahon talking fountain (complete with “YES! YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!” and “HEY-OHH” sound effects).

i couldn’t find the audio (i doubted i would, but it was worth a try!), but a poke around youtube for ed mcmahon stuff turned this up these gems:

#4907 – paragraphs followed by an exclamation point

after this semester i’ll have 18 credits to go:

  • 3 credits of an upper-level intensive writing course
  • 15 information systems credits (6 course credits / 9 elective credits)

if i can get an internship going for my work with metro collective that’ll be 3 credits (if i can think of 4 objectives i have with them) or 6 credits (if i can think of 5+ objectives) out of the way, i think. i don’t even know if i can officially do an internship since apparently the co-op office says you have to have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and i’ve got 2.37. lame!

anyway, it’s been about 2 hours or so since i typed in the above part of this post, and now that i’ve messed with the scheduling for the spring it doesn’t look like i’m going to get everything done by the end of the spring semester. booooo. 🙁 but i’m going to be taking 9 out of the 18 credits i have remaining, so that’s good! and i used one of these professor-rating sites for two of the three classes i signed up for and those professors are apparently really awesome, so i’m all about having awesome professors! i’m going to be taking:

  • mondays, 7-10pm: project management (IFSM 438)
  • tuesdays, 7-10pm: ethics in the information age (IFSM 304)
  • online: technical writing (WRTG 393)

the awesome professors are for the face-to-face classes; i know nothing about the instructor for the online writing class. i was thinking originally of doing business writing until i saw that one of the class requirements is a research essay/project. screw that! all of the intensive writing classes have you writing approximately 6000 characters (25 pages)… i’m not looking forward to that. i’m not looking forward to having to drive to campus two nights in a row, but them’s the breaks when you’re more receptive to face-to-face classes. and i guess that’s the price to pay for having an awesome professor or two!

looks like for the summer it’s going to be a matter of finding 3 final IFSM classes, and then i graduate! and to think that the whole reason why i started looking at this now is because i KNOW that my relatives are all going to ask me at thanksgiving “so when are you going to graduate? huh? huh?” like they always do. i hate it when they keep asking me every single time they see me. GRR!

i think that if i do any job-hunting, i’m going to wait until 2008 (preferably the end of february, at least). we get our short-term incentive (aka “bonus”) at the end of february, but i found out that if you quit or are fired before the year is up then you give up your bonus. you don’t even get a prorated bonus! lame city!
