#5006 – it's grey and rainy but i'm still getting things done

i like getting things done, especially when i don’t have to pay for them.

first off — dentist appointment! woke up at 8:20 with my alarm, set it forward to 9 am and fell asleep again until then. showered, went to the dentist (some nut in a BMW kept going slower and slower in front of me on the way there… the speed limit was 35 and this guy was going 22! even pulled into the same office complex as me! i think he was sent to make my drive to the dentist annoying.)

so they cleaned my teeth, no problems. there’s one spot that might be a small cavity or it might not be, they’re still keeping an eye on it since it’s a little discolored, but nothing serious. nick the technician said “if you’re going to quit your job and you’re not going to have dental insurance then give us a call and we’ll fix it right up for you then and there”, hahah. so that all took about 20-30 minutes, nice and quick! they’re sending it off to the insurance company to take care of for me.

afterwards i got gas in the car and then pulled into the bank next door and deposited a jar of change i had ($16.91).

once that was done, i drove out to bowie to my friend rob’s auto shop that he manages (his dad owns several ones, and rob manages one and his brother manages another) and got my tires rotated. took about 30-40 minutes i guess. but since i had bought my tires from his shop i get my tires rotated for free.

and now i’m back home for lunch and to work on a current events paper for my ethics in information systems class.

#5005 – wahh wahh wahh

man, something last night just did not want to let me go to sleep properly and kept me up feeling ill, so i guess i made up for it today — after i made my previous post, i ended up falling asleep off and on, sprawled across my bed, until about 1 in the afternoon. i wasn’t even in my bed properly, but with my body on the bed and my legs hanging off, and me not even under my covers and still in my work clothes. i felt a bit better after i woke up, but now my back hurts.

so then i worked on my photography for a bit — i re-imported the photos from the expo bout from a month ago (teams “pirate’s booty” vs. “team pabst blue ribbon”), and i fixed up some keywords from that bout and the one versus the ohio roller girls. now i’ve got it set up so you can give me the name of a team or roller girl with ccrg and i can show you all the photos i have that feature them. i can then narrow down the photos based on how good of a photo it is, so i can find the best pictures i’ve got of that skater. i’ve even added tags so i can do the same for photos featuring referees, jammers and pivots. want to see the best pictures i have of jammers? all i need to do is check one checkbox and move one slider and it’ll narrow it all down. pretty snazzy! i’ve only got two bouts in there so far, but hopefully i’ll be able to find some of my earlier images that i had before my old hard drive died so i can re-import those too.

after working on my photos i started to get all in a “wahh wahh life sucks” mood because even though i didn’t go into work today, and even though i don’t have to work tomorrow, i really want to work somewhere doing something that i’d enjoy a lot more — i don’t really feel like i’m doing anything i really like or that gives me as much flexibility as i’d like.

5 months and 23 days left to go until i’m degree’d. sigh.

#5004 – unaccidental

bleh… last night i couldn’t fall asleep since i was feeling pretty nauseous, and it took me ages to finally fall asleep. i think i woke up a few times in the middle of the night too. needless to say, i’m still not feeling very well.

so i decided to call in for a sick day.

but then i remembered how i was working on an escalation on friday; i got all of the price plans changed as necessary, but i hadn’t yet sent an email back to the sales rep and customer to tell them that their plans have been changed because i still needed to rework some of the mobile numbers that were being charged incorrectly. so i figured i’d try to make it in to work, take care of this rework, and if i was still not feeling well then i’d take a half-day off.

turns out that there’s some big incident up at the intersection of briggs chaney road and route 29 (there’s seven traffic lights between the apartment and my work — one never stops me, another almost never stops me, and it’s a mixed bag between the remaining five — and this is only traffic light #3). looked like a handful of police cars and some sort of police van was blocking the way. traffic was backed up a third of a mile, even to a point before i’d reach traffic light #1! since i’d have to call in to say that i’d be late anyway, i called in and just requested the whole day off.

and i still don’t feel very well. blehh.

#5003 – yeahhhhh… mmkay….

so for my technical writing class i’m working on a planning proposal to find out whether or not using laptops with biometric security for 50 users would be worthwhile. since most of this paper (other than our research) is going to be fictionalized, i’m addressing it to “bill lumbergh”.

let’s hope that i can make it through this paper without writing anything to the effect of “is this good for the company?”

i’d put initech’s logo at the top (the memo that we’re to use as a model includes the company’s letterhead) if i knew i wouldn’t have to try citing that part 😛 so far i’m probably just going to call it “FOOtech”.

#5002 – blast hardcheese is alive and well and working at bob evans

today cynicalscribe and i went to bob evans for brunch, and the waiter who took care of us after our first waiter’s shift ended looked an awful lot like this guy from “space mutiny”:

carrie totally looked like she was about to die of ridiculousness after the guy asked if we were fine, and as he walked away i whispered “rock hardcheese”, bahahah… i totally thought they had called that, but the internets have proven me wrong:
