#5106 – i'm feared in these parts, and by "these parts" i mean "the basement"

This was posted over 17 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

the bad thing about living back at home in the basement are the camel crickets that like to hop around here every now and then. after living in the basement for the last 13 years or so i’ve become pretty good at cricket-killing… i can toss a shoe at a cricket across the room with decent accuracy, i can wallop one to smithereens (the secret is to hit it with a shoe like you’re using a golf club, so they go sailing across the room and hit a wall, then get ’em when they’re stunned), etc., etc.

i just had the most macgyver-esque moment ever in cricket-killing, though. i went into my bathroom and there was one on the floor. i was in my bare feet, so stepping on it and shoe attacks were out of the question. there wasn’t anything particularly handy for swatting at it in there. but, i saw on the floor a can of air that i use for blowing dust off of film negatives before scanning, so i took the can and inverted it and sprayed at the cricket to give it a case of terminal frostbite.
