#5104 – white-collar janitor

This was posted over 17 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

i think i figured out what bugs me about this new position at work. oh, it’s definitely interesting (my previous position was always going to be basic account maintenance, yawn… not very engaging), but the thing that annoys me is that for practically no increase in pay i’m taking on tremendously more responsibility and fixing problems made by people who are better compensated than i am, and for people who are better compensated than i am — i don’t know, but that seems pretty lame to me.

if you ask my dad what he does for a living, he’ll probably say that he’s “a paper-pushing bureacrat” (he doesn’t care for his job much at all). me? i’ve effectively become a white-collar janitor, and i may just start telling people that if they ask me what i do for a living. 😛

the only good thing about this job so far is that it gives me some awesome résumé-fodder just by taking some parts out of the job description and rewriting them:
