i’m trying to narrow down to 10 photos of the weekend’s derby bout so i can figure out what to write for captions and such for my class, and man is it difficult to pick and choose 10 “best” photos out of 100 (or even 30) photos, especially when you’ve got so many personal favorites.
another thing – i’d really like to start organizing my photos more and figure out a better workflow. i don’t really do much organizing or metatagging or captioning of my photos on my computer, mostly because it cranks along at a snail’s pace and i get tired of trying to sort the photos so i can even begin to organize them. also, i don’t have enough room on my laptop to store them all, and that’s just my pictures i’ve taken, and doesn’t include my other crap i’ve got on here like music and videos and such.
so, i’ve been trying to think up a new way of streamlining my workflow and how to organize it appropriately and what sort of hardware i’d need for storage and such. knowing this stuff ahead of time will help me when i order my new workstation once apple comes out with new computers after march or if i get fed up with this one so much before the new computers are released. then i’ll know how i should spec my computer out when i go to buy it. i mean, the photos i’ve got on my computer right now come up to 50 gigs alone! this does not count the ones i’ve backed up to dvds or my other hard drive since i don’t have enough room on here for any others, and definitely would be going up up up once i really get into scanning film. so, lots of storage? check.
but as for workflow, i found classes like this, but they just tell you how to use the program. i know how to USE it for most of that stuff… i just need to find examples of HOW it’s used, if that makes any sense. i’ve got ideas of how i want it to work, but i don’t know how feasible they are or if they’re even possible. i just need to start it all fresh from scratch.
there’s all these emails and things i need to read through and keep track of – i feel so busy lately, i think i’m burning myself out. i was going to try to take friday off of work so i’d have a 3 1/2 day weekend and relax some but there’s only 4 hours left available for vacation that day and so i figured against taking a half-day off that day. grr…
