sheesh, scanning film takes FOREVERRRRR.
so, work today was same ol’ same ol’. i spent most of the day finishing up my great big save-the-day rework so this agency wouldn’t disconnect 120+ lines of service – there’s still some things that need to be done with it before their account gets credited, but the time-consuimg stuff is done.
on the bright side, one of my supervisors got it set so we wouldn’t have to answer the phones for the rest of this week or for the duration of next week because of all the orders we have waiting. at least i won’t be stressing over that.
i also got one of my photos published today…
me: guess what? your bank is now famous

also also, i was finally paid by work for my photography i did at their kickoff event 😀 i had to set up a special service with paypal where now i can take credit cards more like a swipe-machine than having to enter in all of the billing stuff… it’s $20 / month, but depending on the work i end up doing per month it could be a reasonable business expense. we’ll see. of course, paypal takes their cut, and then i need to pay the 5% sales tax on the total as well.
i went to my photojournalism class – our assignment was to have 10 photos of things that we would want pictures of if we were up in space with nothing else to keep. the instructor said “i’m going to just come by and take a quick look at everybody’s photos since we’re going to have some guest speakers, so everybody put your 10 photos up small on your screens…” – i only had 4 good different ones, so i put the four up and i don’t think he noticed the difference since i filled the entire screen with them. he says for us to email him to say that he saw our photos and we’ll have a sort of off-week with no real assignment; he wants us to include two of our favorite photos we took with our email to him, and we’ll go over our photos next week in class…. so, effectively, i’ve got another week to take more pictures 😀
my instructor is part of a local group of photographers called the “metro collective” or something, and these two guys are part of that group – we saw photos and heard from bill crandall and hector emanuel (one of his photos of riot police in columbia was used as part of a thievery corporation cd cover or something, which i thought was funny because i swear i saw he had a shirt that looked like “the richest man in babylon” cover on under his jacket). he also apparently won an award from the world press photo foundation for some of his columbian photos as well).
as a special treat we got out of class early, so i came back to the apartment and started finishing up scanning my color roll of film. i’ll need to cut the negatives for my tri-x before i can scan that, though. watched some tv while it scanned (including the first episode of season 2 of “cathouse” on hbo, and thought about a funny conversation i had with bruno_boy about the bunnyranch – basically we talked about what if we drove cross-country out to the bunnyranch and how it’d be all speeding down the highway in the mini kind of like…
dave: “pull over, glenn! i’m hungry! i need to use the bathroom! i want to stretch my legs!”
me: “SHUT UP DAVE!! WE’RE ON A MISSION!”
andrew w.k. (on radio, non-stop): “PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD etc.”
i actually know a guy who went there once, believe it or not.
while sitting here babysitting the scanner i also read through some more of “surely you’re joking, mr. feynman!” which is a great and hilarious book and if i ever get around to writing my memoirs it’s going to be just like this book and oh man i bet this post doesn’t make any sense since i’m so tired and wish this last frame would finish scanning gahhhh.
i think tomorrow i’m going to get a new bag for my camera after work and keep an eye out for cute girls at the camera store.
