it looks like canon has discontinued the canoscan 9950f film scanner. GRR. that’s the one i was hoping to buy once i got my tax refund! i don’t want to buy the 8600f… the 9950f goes to 11 9950! that’s 1350 louder better!
at first i couldn’t figure out why i couldn’t find any reference to this scanner at any online store though it was listed for sale on canon usa’s webpage. now it’s no longer listed on canon’s site. sure, it’s about 2 1/2 to 3 years old, but from what i’ve read it seems that people have been very happy with it. hopefully this means that canon’s going to come out with a new scanner real soon now, and it’ll be even better if they release a new scanner by the time my refund arrives.
my big requirements are that it should be able to scan 35mm negatives/positives, 35mm slides, and medium format as well (since i’d like to give that a try sometime). the 8600 can do all these, but if i remember right the 9500 had a little bit better quality and could scan more negatives/slides than the 8600 could at once or some other special feature.
i’d prefer not to get a nikon scanner. something just wouldn’t seem right about taking photos with canon equipment and scanning them into the computer with a nikon. 😛
