#3366 – it's sad i notice stuff like this

This was posted over 20 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

there was an ad on tv just now about virginia’s campaign for governor, showing a man (on a trampoline, presumably) going up into the air and doing flips on his way up and down.

so why did i notice that the building not-so-cleverly concealed in the background of the ad is the swiss re centre??

today we went into dc to try to get mom’s painting in the national gallery of art (the picture was of this gelato bar in the basement by the gift shop, and she wanted to give it to the man who was working there at the time she took the picture as she told him she might paint it) – she wanted me to come to take sneaky pictures of her giving them the painting. we met up with dad at the museum during his lunch break as well. unfortunately, the man who she had spoken with wasn’t there (he only works weekends now that he has another job) and they said they couldn’t display it because it was an art museum. oh well.

when we were leaving and walking past this sculpture garden at the museum, i noticed they had as an “exhibit” the design of the entrance to the subways in paris.

a couple observations at the museum:

the only thing you’ll find in the east building, apparently

the gelato bar

easily the sweetest rootbeer i’ve had (click the image to see the note why)

the guy sitting in the middle has a “what did i do to deserve this?” look on his face, haha

1870s

Masked Ball at the Opera

vs.

1960s

?

you can tell a man made this painting:

The Shipwreck

here’s why…

even though it’s also got other ships and struggles at sea…

the painter still added a boob shot:

check out all of my pictures here, or see mom’s pictures here.

editing those pictures and putting them up made me want aperture even more when apple gets around to releasing it. wahh wahh wahh cry cry cry.

i’ve seen two references to fred savage today and thought of sk8bette each time – one was on the way into dc we were reading the washington post express on the metro, there was an entertainment column answering questions from readers; one of the blurbs was about “inside the actor’s studio” complaining about how stupid it’s gotten, how it’s now showing people who apparently don’t even act, and how it’s just a a soapbox for james lipton (“the biggest gasbag in the world”). the next blurb was “where do you see fred savage in 10 years?” and the columnist’s answer was “on inside the actor’s studio”. the second reference was just now on jay leno as he was interviewing george clooney and showed a clip of him from ages ago and they started cracking how he looks like fred savage, hahaha.
