#4961 – graphics "editting"

i’m interested in learning how to use adobe illustrator; the only adobe program i use regularly is photoshop, but i’m interested in figuring out vector graphics. i would probably be sketching anything i want to import and scan it in… just thinking about it made me remember back to when adobe streamline was first released.

anyway, so i’m downloading the demo of illustrator from adobe’s page to try it out. the demo is 1.12 GIGS. sure, you can enter in an unlock code and buy the program to turn the demo into a fully-functional package, but what the hell, adobe? seriously, when did a single software program become so large?

also, even though adobe makes indesign and acrobat and other page/text layout stuff, i guess imaging applications are still their strong point, especially when the photoshop project manager has a quote with “editing” spelled wrong:

oh, adobe. *sigh*

#4958 – taxes will make you fat, young

i’ve actually been kind of productive tonight, if you measure productivity in the number of news websites i’ve been catching up on after work. although, i did manage to get some of my taxes done — whenever i can get my hands on the turbotax release for the year i get almost obsessive-compulsive about getting my taxes done as soon as i can. turbotax actually makes doing taxes kind of fun, even when i end up having to pay, and then it only becomes irritating since it’s not exactly turbotax’s fault i had to pay.

i realized earlier that i don’t even really get this worked up about reading books nowadays. but doing my taxes? that’s like those old choose-your-own-adventure books: what’s going to happen when i click to the next screen?? will my payment increase or will my refund go down?? i need to know if this story has a happy ending!

so far this “story” isn’t going as well — i was able to get my business tax info in there, and it’s helped me out with figuring out what business expenses i can deduct (i’m suddenly not that annoyed at having to pay monthly fees to paypal for being able to take credit cards just like a credit-card swipe machine). but right now this story has me having to pay $272 to the feds for my photography income, and i haven’t even gotten to the chapter where i pay the maryland state taxes. but i’m not that concerned… i heard there’s a great plot-twist coming up shortly where i get my W-2 form in the mail!

i’m also doing some poking around with my profile on linkedin… i figured it could use some updated info, especially since i got my new title the other day:

i also saw the section where it tells you how many people looked at your profile recently, and the last one made me literally laugh-out-loud:

it made me think for a moment, and then after a quick google search i found this which was even more hilarious (because there was a guy in high school named cecil batts who loved to say “hey young!” a lot).

eta: i should make this my linkedin profile image, lolololololol…

#4957 – the colonel is breakdancing… give me a break!

did a little bit more work on my fitzpatrickphotos.com site; not too much has changed since my last post, but now i’ve got it set so:

– there’s now a store for people to buy prints, and get them framed if they want (see top-right)

– if i put the image up on my store and reference the link in the post metadata, it puts the “buy this photo” blurb below the text about the image (see the bottom-left)

– the “about” page now has a blurb about me

this template is a bit tricky to modify (i’m just getting the hang of it). but i still like this setup because now it motivates me to take more pictures and set the great ones up on here to be showcased and possibly bought.

also, remember when i applied for that position with the IT department at work? back at the end of october? turns out this one woman on my team got the position. i wasn’t even interviewed. :/ blahh.
