#5159 – a day where i can't complain

This was posted over 17 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

today was pretty awesome:

i was able to leave work at 1 to go to the job fair (but not before my team got free pizza at work from our supervisor at noon!).

talked with about a half-dozen organizations: DISA, national archives, VA’s office of IT, terpsys, and a few others as well.

went into DC to politics & prose and met john hodgman:

he was doing a tour for his new book “more information than you require”, and i had only found out about it a few hours before when i was still at work because i subscribe to his twitter; it was a pretty funny talk, and he was very nice and personalized everybody’s book. it was also very funny when we were making small-talk while he was signing, it went something like this…

john: “nice suit; do you model suits?”

me: “a little, heh. i took off of work early to go to a job fair today.”

john: “so what do you do when you’re not modeling suits?”

me: “i support cell phone accounts for the federal government.”

john: *mock horror* “YOU LISTEN TO MY PHONE CONVERSATIONS?!?”

me: “no! uh… i listen to your audiobook!”

john: “…WHEN I’M READING IT ON THE TELEPHONE?!?!”

and that was my day!
