#4777 – what the world needs now, is focus, more focus

This was posted over 18 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

i just did a preliminary edit of my derby photos to see which ones to edit and which ones to not waste time on, and there’s so many good ones compositionally that either:

  • are out of focus for some reason or another (by even just a little bit, but enough to be distracting), or
  • are too dark to fix up in post-processing

    🙁

(that’s not to say that all of my photos turned out bad, i just wish that more of them are usable. the question is, do i upload these almost-good-slightly-out-of-focus ones or not? tough decision.)

i need to get one of these. one of the other league photographers, epmd, he was using it for the first time yesterday and said that it was working terrific for him — it’s rated for about 400 shots (432, according to the description) with 1.7 second cycle time. considering i took 468 photos, i think that’d be a good investment. maybe i’ll get one for my birthday! if not, i’ll buy one myself to use at the regionals.

unfortunately, that box won’t solve the problem of road rash rivers’ arm getting in between me and some of my shots, haha…

i’m glad i picked up a second 2-gig memory card for my camera beforehand, though. i had previously been using one 2-gig card, and two 1-gig cards. the problem before was i ended up searching through the cards during the last bout or so to find photos that were obviously bad so i could delete them and clear up more space for photos, but now i do just fine with two 2-gig cards with the 1-gig cards for use if necessary.

    back to the digital darkroom!
