went to the who concert tonight with mom, and they rocked the place yet again. i think the concert in philadelphia was a little bit better but they were both awesome and mom really enjoyed the performance. opening act was “rose hill drive” and they were awesome too. way to go, power trio!
so i looked at this guy’s photos of the roller derby and was wondering why his photos came out so much brighter than mine did. mine were shot with 1/100 sec, f/4, ISO 400, and after looking at his EXIF data i found out that his were shot with 1/80, f/2.8, ISO 200 (though he was using a sigma lens and not L glass, or even a canon lens for that matter). i thought that next time i’d try shooting with those settings and thought that was a pretty good idea until i remembered my 70-200 lens will only open up as wide as f/4. no f/2.8 for me. 🙁 so then i started wondering how much a 70-200 f/2.8 L lens would cost? “only” $1115! oh, is that all?? no thanks… at least for now. i’ll have to try with my 50mm f/1.8 instead, even though it’s not L glass and takes forever to focus compared to the professional lenses i’ve got.
I know many people are probably deciding between the F/4L F/2.8L and the F/2.8L IS. If you want the most bang for the buck go for the F/2.8L. Why, because if you’re serious enough to buy the F/4L you will eventually migrate to this F/2.8L (like many photographers), why because there is nothing going to speed up your shutter speed better than the f/2.8 at the long end when compared to F/4 especially for fast moving targets.
