#3086 – the many meanings of "batman"

This was posted over 20 years ago; my opinions, thoughts, attitude, and writing style may have evolved since then, and this post might have been different if it were to be posted today.

from answers.com, “batman” is…

“A British military officer’s orderly.”

“A batman is a soldier assigned to a commissioned officer as a personal servant.

Duties often include: acting as a “runner” to convey orders from the officer to subordinates maintaining the officer’s uniform and personal equipment as a valet driving the officer’s vehicle, sometimes under combat conditions other miscellaneous tasks the officer does not himself (or herself) have time or inclination to do”

“A batman is an historical unit of mass of Persia of 2.97 kilograms.

A batman (of much different size) is a historical weight unit in Muslim parts of Russia used in 18th century and more before. It is equivalent to 1000 pood or 16.4 metric tons.”

fascinating! now things are going to be hilarious when i think of wisconsin recycling one batman of cardboard, or one batman of pcp being confiscated, bahahahah
