#3760 – premature title

i checked the mail today when we got home from this civil war reenacting thing that dad and anne were doing, and i found 2 pieces of mail for me:

– the first piece of mail was from the motor vehicle administration; it was a form to renew my car’s registration since it expires at the end of june, and i have to pay $128 to do so. yaaay.

– the second piece of mail was what really confused me; it was from navy federal credit union (the people i have my auto loan through), and when i opened it up there was the title to my car! there was a piece of paper with it that said:

Dear: SIR OR MADAM

[ x ] CERTIFICATE OF TITLE

[   ] BILL OF SALE

[   ] LIEN RELEASE / LIEN PORTION

[   ] MANUFACTURER'S STATEMENT OF ORIGIN

[   ] OTHER:

in a box on it that says “authorized signature” it says “CINTORINO”.

this really confuses me because when i had originally purchased the car and had my auto loan, i had to send my title to the credit union until i had paid the loan back to them, and when i had mailed them the title i got back this same sheet of paper but with the box checked for them receiving the title and that i’d receive it back once i’d paid off my loan. the thing is, i have a 36-month loan (i still have another $6700 or so left to pay), and i’ve only completed about 24 months of that!)… why did they send me my title a year early??

not that i’m complaining or anything; if they want me to stop paying my loan now, i’m cool with that!
