#3427 – $25 by 12/5

before going to bed i remembered i wanted to configure my 401k a bit (i had everything set up to be 100% invested in an aggressively-managed growth fund), but i wanted to reconfigure it a bit like this recommendation i once read at the motley fool webpage and had printed out and taped to my monitor years ago… now it’s a bit more balanced among different investments and that’s always good.

i also wanted to adjust my direct deposit to deposit 5% of each paycheck to my savings account. right now 6% is taken out for my 401k (since the company matches 6% as well, so it’s like socking away 12% of each paycheck for retirement), but i wasn’t saving anything – everything else was going into my checking account where i’d spend it all. now i rigged it up so not this next paycheck (which comes out on tuesday), but the next one (at the end of the month) it’ll not only be taking out 6% for my 401k but also 5% and putting that in my savings account for emergencies. it’s a good idea to do it with that paycheck too since that’ll be my first one for my new pay, so i won’t notice the difference that much.

when i was finding a check for the direct deposit info (transit numbers and all that), i stumbled across a gift certificate i got for the wild orchid café almost 2 years ago; good thing i found it, since it’s set to expire 12/5/2005… it looks like i’ve found my first place to go to eat at, like i was thinking about in my previous post…

eta: oh yeah! i forgot, i’m also interested in doing a road trip up to philadelphia sometime to try out iron chef morimoto’s restaurant, which i think would be pretty awesome to make a trip up for…
