right now i’m watching a show about aircraft carriers (i’ve always found them interesting, ever since i was a little kid)… it’s pretty hilarious seeing these old videos of planes from the early 1900s landing on carriers and slowly tipping off the sides with large crowds running after them to try to hold on.
the first successful carrier landing was by a pilot realizing that holding his plane at just above stalling speed was about the same as the speed of the ship, so he had his plane outfitted with handles so the deck crew could reach up and pull the plane down to the deck. unfortunately, the same process killed him when they tried it the day after.
also, word on the street is they’re going to be filming a movie about the life and times of teddy roosevelt (yay!) starring leonardo dicaprio (boo!). i have no idea if it’ll be good or not.
